“Our democracy is threatened whenever we take it for granted…it falls to each of us to be…guardians of our democracy; to embrace the joyous task we’ve been given to continually try to improve this great nation of ours…because for all our outward differences, we all share the same proud title: Citizen.” – Barack Obama

About

We are a group of active citizens and residents of Washington, D.C. As D.C. residents we are not afforded voting representation in Congress even though we are tax-paying citizens. Though we don’t have voting rights in Congress we have the luxury of proximity to your Senators and Congresspeople, and the ability to hand deliver your voices directly to your elected officials. This strategy makes your voice more personal than a phone message, email or regular mail.

Deliver Your Voice is committed to exercising our first amendment rights and directly delivering them to the source: the elected officials responsible for representing us in this great democracy. Energized by the Women’s March and subsequent rallies, we chose this strategy as a way to personalize promoting these values.  Thank you for your participation and for making your voices heard!

FAQs

Why hand-deliver a letter?
Representatives and Senators want to hear from you, their constituents. We have spoken with staffers from various offices – past and present – on the Hill about how they like to hear from their constituency. A common theme from all of them is that personalized letters from constituents delivered directly to their office are very meaningful. They are sometimes inundated by emails and phone calls, and although they receive letters, the process to receive letters in Congress is time-consuming since mail needs to pass through a rigorous security screening system. A lot can change in the time a letter is sent through ‘snail mail’ until it finally reaches their Office. Hand-delivering a letter through deliveryourvoice.org is fast, easy, and brings your voice directly to your elected official. Pro tip: Though form letters are considered, there is nothing more meaningful than receiving a personalized letter from a constituent.
What am I required to include on my letter?
Your address (including your zip code!), name, signature, and your important message for your elected official!
What if I want my message to go to more than one of my elected officials?
Awesome use of your first amendment rights! Please submit one letter per each elected official.
How will I know my letter has been delivered?
You will receive an email confirmation once your letter has been delivered.
When will my letter be delivered?
We will be posting ‌final submission dates associated with our scheduled deliveries. As long as you submit your letter by that date, you can rest assured your letter will be delivered as scheduled. Once it has been delivered you will get an email confirming delivery!
How do I get my signature on the document?
We recommend you print it, sign it, and then either scan it in or take a picture of it.
You're all volunteers. Why are you doing this for free?
Worldwide over 2 million people marched on January 21st to express our democratic values. Since then we have continued to promote these values by assembling in the community, and by calling and writing our elected officials. Hand delivering your letter is a means for us to work together to express our collective voice. We want to do our part by carrying your powerful voices in our nation’s capital, and to stay energized around these important issues.
What else can I do?
Write or call your elected officials, deliver letters to your officials’ local offices in your state, and/or schedule a meeting with them to discuss issues that are important to you. Garner support within your community by talking to neighbors and local businesses, build a network of like-minded citizens, and organize activities and initiatives to create positive impact!
That's a lot of paper! What are you doing to care for the environment?
The environment is important to us. Without our elected officials taking responsible and meaningful measures to mitigate climate change, protect our air and water, and conserve wildlife, there will be no more environment. We, therefore, consider the long-term positive impacts worth the short-term environmental cost of the paper.
What do you do with my personal information?
Letters are destroyed after we confirm delivery. With the exception of the specified elected official receiving your letter as instructed, we do not supply any of your private information to another party.
